What is Blood Glucose?
Blood glucose, or blood sugar is thebody’s primary source of energy
Glucose, also called Dextrose, one of a group of carbohydrates known as simple sugars (monosaccharides).
Glucose (from Greek glykys; “sweet”) has the molecular formula C6H12O6. It is found in fruits and honey and is the major free sugar circulating in the blood of higher animals. It is the source of energy in cell function, and the regulation of its metabolism is of great importance.
Principle
The enzyme glucose oxidase reacts with glucose, water, and oxygen to form gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide can then be used to oxidize a chromogen or the consumption of oxygen measured to estimate the amount of glucose present.
Sample Type
Serum or Plasma is Acceptable for the Test
But you have to make sure the Test is done within one hour if you are using Serum Sample (Plain Tube)
Procedure
- Prepare 3 Tubes and add 1,0000 ul in each Tube
- Label the tube (Blank, Standard, Test)
- Leave Blank tube . Add 10ul from sample to the Test Tube, and add 10ul from Standard to the Standard Tube
- Mix Well and incubate 10 mins @ room tempreature or 5 mins @37c
- Read the Absorbance against blank at Wavelenght 540 nm
