Principle of the Test
in Stool analysis Test we prepare wet mount sample in slide by mixing the stool sample with Normal saline which preserves the morphological characterestics of the cells and stool content and also makes parasites and bacteria move.
Equipments
in order to perform this Test we Need:
1. Fresh Stool sample
2. Microscope
3. Slide
4. Coverglass
5. Normal Saline
6. Woden Stick (For mixing and Sample Taking)
Sample Collection Instructions
- Stool Sample must be collected in clean and dry stool container
- stool sample must be delivered to the lab immediately or 1 hour at maximum from the time of collection
- give instruction to the patient on the amount of the sample required
Procedure
- in clean dry slide add 2 drops of normal saline
- using wooden stick insert it in the stool sample and try mix gently inside the sample
- mix the sample in the wooden stick with normal saline in the slide until the color of normal saline is homogenous
- put the coverslide over the mixure of normal saline and stool
- using X10 & X40 Microscope lens diagnose the sample and report the result
How to write the report
in stool analysis there are two stages of examination
1. Macroscopic Examination: Where you use your Naked eye to evaluate the color, consistency, Blood, etc….
2. Microscopic Examination: Where you use the Microscope to observe cells, parasites, Bacteria, etc….
1. Macroscopic/Physical examination
in this Step we must report:
1. Color (Normal color is Brown)
2. Ph (Normal Ph is Alkaline)
3. Consistensy (Normally it is Soft)
4. Blood
5. Mucus
Microscopic Examination
in this Step we Must Report
1. RBCs: Report by Number/hpf
2. Pus Cells: Report by number /hpf
3. Parasites (Cyst, Trophozoite, Worm,…) *Remember to write Parasite Name + Stage + Denssity*
4. Yeast Cells: Report by +
5. Undigested Food & Starch: Report By +
6. Bacteria: Report By +
7. if you have any other Findings you can report it on the others Section
